Space exploration has been a great propaganda tool for the USA and USSR during the cold war. At that time science was considered key to the advancement of human kind. As the last space shuttle mission took off, science is under siege in this country.
The lack of interest our nation has given to the space program mirror the lack of interest we, the people have toward science. It seems we have forgotten science translate into economic prosperity. By loosing our edge on science, we are loosing our capability to develop products that will drive our economy.
I live off the digital world but I understand most our world is NOT digital. To maintain it’s leadership, this country must support science again and re-initiate it’s manufacturing industry.
While most people around the world agrees the United States of America is the best country to live in, we should build on this positive image.

Our corporations should stop focusing on building Chinese junk and rather aim at producing the best products in their respective categories. American products that would be sought by consumers around the world, because like the nation that produce them, they are the best!
There will always be a country with cheaper labor producing bad products. Let’s put an end to this race to the bottom. Why can we not make Made in USA the standard in quality? Products that are so good they would justify paying more for them?
I suffer from Walmart fatigue. I am tired of my Chinese stainless steel silverware that rust every time it’s “cleaned” in the dishwasher. I am looking forward to the day I will prefer to buy a car built in Detroit rather than Germany; When shopping for the best TV, I’ll skip the Japanese brand; When my next computer will not only be designed in California but built somewhere in the South of the USA.
If we can’t compete on price, let’s compete on quality. Let’s build the best products money can buy. Let’s give back to the label MADE IN USA it’s true glory!
Today, we thank and salute the women and men of NASA, who choose the path of Science and gave our nation 40 years of leadership in the field of space exploration.
